Double-barreled live performances tonight for the two hours of "Profiles in Folk." During the first hour our old friend Mike Kachuba paid another visit to the show to introduce us to his new album, It Happened In Connecticut." The album is a collection of 13 original songs of Connecticut history from the 1600s to events in the last century. Mike can be reached via e-mail at acoutrad@aol.com or at (203) 380-2080. Mike's a Stratford resident and has had a varied career from elephant handler and zoologist to teacher and a former member of the Ask Creek String Band. For more than 15 years, he and his wife Mary Ellen ran the Rabbit Hill Coffeehouse in Westport, CT.
The second hour featured more old friends, the trio Shipping News. Comprised of Gina Dunlap, Paula Daddio and Eric Yuhas, Shipping News will be heading into the recording studio at the end of February to record their first album. All-Ireland accordionist John Whelan will be producing the album, which has the tentative title, "Wives' Tales." The trio can be reached at shppngnews@aol.com.
