10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters
Gospel music held sway for this Profiles in Folk as we welcomed Alison McHugh from Moretown, Vermont and nine other young musicians and singers who are part of the Community of the Crucified One, a nondenominational religious community with a mother church in Homestead, Pa. Drawing upon Scripture from the Old Testament and New Testament, Alison and the group performed nearly two hours of original and traditional gospel music tinged with folk and bluegrass, rock, jazz, African and even Klezmer music. It was an amazing musical night. We discussed their music ministry within the church as well as a CCO ministry in Kenya that gave rise to their first CD, Kids In Kenya. During a brief break at the top of the hour I programmed a few cuts from Kelly Armor and Dave Sturtevant who have also been guests on the show. Kelly did missionary work in Kenya as well for the Methodist Church. Our thanks to WSHU Chief Engineer Paul Litwinovich, who engineered the complex sound set up for the evening and arranged getting the group for an appearance. It was the most performers we've ever had for an in-studio show. Alison McHugh & The CCO Music Ministry Live in WSHUs Studio A
