Religious Expression In Folk Music

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

This annual show, sometimes two separate shows depending on when the holidays fall on the calendar, celebrates two of the world's major religious holidays: The Jewish celebration of Passover which recalls the flight of the Israelites from slavery and bondage in Egypt more than 3,000 years ago and the Christian's Passion of Jesus Christ climaxing in His Resurrection. Although much of the music programmed is directly related to the holidays, some is not but falls into the category of religious expression in folk music which we are exploring on this program.

*Webmaster's note: Due to copyright laws effective on Jan 1, 2002 we regret that we can not post play lists for dates with archived audio. We will delay the posting of the weekly play list for 2 weeks while the archived show is available. This will not apply to portions of shows containing live guests where the guests have given permission to post a play list along with the audio.

Note: The selections by Solas are not by the Irish-American super-group led by Seamus Egan. Rather, they are a group of mostly Irish musicians performing tracks from 12 Irish composers of religious music. The album is from OCP Publications in Belfast, North Ireland and Portland, Oregon.
