Live in WSHU’s Studio A: The Strauss/Warschauer Duo

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

It was with great joy that we welcomed Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer, two outstanding and committed musicians in the world of klezmer music and Yiddish song, to “Profiles in Folk” for live performance and conversation in WSHU’s Studio A.

Deborah (violin, accordion and vocals) and Jeff (guitar, mandolin and vocals) are well-known and deeply respected performers and teachers on the klezmer music scene in North America, as well as in Europe. They are members of the renowned Klezmer Conservatory Band and have performed with violinist Itzhak Perlman in concert and on film.

For more than 75 minutes, Strauss/Warschauer provided a magical evening of radio with their music and commentary about klezmer music and Yiddish song and where they fit into the historical continuum as a duo. We also played two selections from their forthcoming album, “Rejoicing.”

Strauss/Warschauer, who reside in Brooklyn, can be reached on the Web at www.klezmerduo.com or at warschauer@aol.com

We finished the evening with just a bit of fellow klezmer virtuoso and Brooklyn resident Andy Statman and then two Celtic super-groups appearing in our broadcast area during the next week.
