An Evening With Adrianne Greenbaum
10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters
LIVE FROM STUDIO A!
|
Nationally acclaimed classical and klezmer flutist Adrianne Greenbaum joined
Profiles in Folk host Steve Winters Friday for a live performance and
conversation in WSHU's Studio A about the role of the flute in the
traditional Jewish music known as klezmer. The original sounds of the wood
flute were heard throughout Eastern Europe in the mid-nineteenth century
until "louder" instruments such as clarinet and trumpet edged this
beautiful sound out of the shtetl bands. Greenbaum, a soloist with the New
Haven Symphony and Orchestra New England, makes her case for the flute's
return to klezmer.
