Outstanding New Releases

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

An uncomplicated night of offering selections of CD discs that are new to Profiles in Folk, including a large helping of a major new work from singer-songwriter Richard Shindell. All the new discs have been spending a lot of time in our CD players.

The exception was the Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem CD. We played a few selections to mark their debut appearance a few days earlier at Joe’s Pub, an outstanding venue in New York City’s East Village. Comedian-actor (and banjo player) Steve Martin was in the audience for the show.

Laura Kemp was a member of Babes With Axes and makes her home in Oregon. The members of Skean Dubh hail from Colorado. Our Nordic entries were the renowned group Vasen and Peter Puma Hedlund, a foremost exponent of the Swedish nyckelharpa, whose record label is in Pennsylvania.
