10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters
No themes here, but a lot of varied reasons and a lot of fine music.
The reasons: Karen Ashbrook and Paul Oorts will be two of the featured performers at the 2nd Annual Nutmeg Dulcimer Festival in Hamden on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The Happy Traum and Tim O’Brien CDs were feature during a show we did recently on traditional music. This is a bit of the contemporary music to be found on these stellar albums. The Bob Dylan set is in advance of the Martin Scorsese documentary “Bob Dylan: No Direction Home” on PBS. Musicians Edward J. Smith of Connecticut, Jackson C. Frank of Buffalo, N.Y. and Nick Drake of England all died well before their years, but their contributions to the folk and acoustic music world live on. The Edward J. Smith CD — lovingly pieced together by friends including singer/songwriters Hugh Blumenfeld, Margo Hennebach and Mark Saunders — came to us from listener Paul LeVasseur. It is not available in record shops but can be gotten through the Ed Smith Memorial Fund, c/o Jim Smith, PO Box 187, Kensington, CT 06037
