10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters
The first hour of this program was slated to be a “Live In WSHU Studio A” chat and live music with two members — founder Susan Robbins and original member Marytha Paffrath — of Libana, the world-renowned women’s world music ensemble. However, heavy thunderstorms plaguing New England this day, weekend traffic congestion and, no doubt, highway accidents resulting from the storms, prevented Susan and Marytha from reaching us. After having traveled only 30 miles in 2½ hours, they called and said there was no way they would reach our studios before midnight. Armed with only one of their CDs, we carried on for most of the show’s first hour featuring music from the 27-year-old group, outlining their history and their well-earned characterization as “troubadours of peace”.
For the second hour, we offered up our annual tribute to mom in honor of upcoming Sunday holiday. The programming was a perfect fit with Libana’s performance emphasis which seeks to “illuminate the spirit and universality of women’s experiences through music, song and dance from around the globe….” You can learn much more about Libana at www.Libana.com
