Folk Legacy: Doc Watson

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

We're on vacation this week and this program is an updated rebroadcast of a show which originally aired on July 19, 2002. The program is devoted entirely to Doc Watson, one of American folk music's true treasures and resources. The program is culled from a marvelous three-CD set entitled "Legacy" issued by High Windy Audio and is a past Grammy Award winner for traditional folk music.

The package is an outgrowth of a remarkable musical collaboration and deep friendship that has developed over two decades between Doc and noted musician and storyteller David Holt. The concept for this set progressed from a television concert they were asked to do in 1998 for North Carolina Public Television, which garnered great viewer response. Doc and David then took their discussion and music show, called "The Hills Of Home Tour," on the road to audiences intrigued about learning more about Doc's singular and inspiring life. The three-CD set is comprised of recordings of interviews with Doc and a live concert recording.

Because of the lengthy list of snippets of interview and songs, we'll dispense with a playlist for this show. However, you can find out much more about the "Legacy" package, Doc Watson and David Holt at:
