A String Band Soiree

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

As the “dog days of August” approach, Profiles in Folk is determined to take the temperatures even higher with several programs of hot, blistering music. What a better place to start than a night of all string band music from old standbys like Walt Koken to all these new “young-uns” embracing the old-timey sound. Listeners responded en masse with positive phone calls and e-mails.

A tip of the 10-gallon hat to the Newport Folk Festival and publicist Sue Auclair for arranging once more summer for some wonderful ticket giveaways for the upcoming festival. Perfect for a summer’s night reward for listeners.
