Generous Helpings of New Releases

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

I’ve chosen five sterling new releases to serve up generous portions of music for the night. Highlight of the night is two sets from British singer-songwriter and gifted guitarist Steve Tilston, who is appropriately honored with a new 5-CD box set ("Reaching Back") career retrospective to date from Free Reed Records in the United Kingdom (www.free-reed.co.uk). Similar to other Free Reed’s box sets that we program from liberally, the Tilston box set is a singular and outstanding package. I’ve chosen some of Tilston’s well-known material that can be found on the set’s first two CDs.

In addition, there are new offerings from young Kris Drever of Scotland, son of Ivan Drever (Wolfstone, Knowe o’Deil) and one of the UK’s rapidly rising stars; Scots fiddler Chris Stout; the unique pairing of John Prine with 82-year-old bluegrass warbler Mac Wiseman, and folk revival troubadour Eric Andersen.
