It’s summer and that signals folk festival time. This is the first of two shows as we examine these unique gatherings of community that bring us folkies together for a common purpose. Folk music festivals (and their antecedents, the fiddle competitions and festival and yore) have with us in America for well over a century. However, it was the folk revival of the late 1950s and early 1960s that sparked festivals becoming a large part of the American musical mainstream. Today such musical gatherings heavily dot the American landscape.
During the next two weeks, the program also offered listeners a wide array of Northeastern festival tickets compliments of the Green River Festival, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Summerfest and the Podunk Bluegrass Festival. Our sincere thanks to the promoters of these festivals.
