On The Road With Jack Kerouac

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

I opened with lengthy sets featuring the hammered dulcimer playing of Brenda Hunter, who will be one of the featured performers this weekend at the 4th Annual Nutmeg Dulcimer Festival, and the powerful songwriting of Alastair Moock from his new album.

After Hunter and Moock, it was all music and recitations to mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Jack Kerouac’s masterpiece “On the Road”, the novel that became the voice for the beat generation. Although Kerouac wrote against a backdrop of bebop jazz, many in the folk and acoustic music embraced his message and his persona in their music. This program offered just a sampling.
