A Birthday, Two New Releases and Touring Artists

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

I followed up last week’s celebration of the 85th birthday of Doc Watson with yet another cake with a lit candle to mark the 70th birthday of famed guitarist Norman Blake. He’s another artist whose virtuosic musicianship influenced two generations of pickers. The show also featured new releases from two long-time favorite artists — songwriter extraordinaire Jack Hardy and Joel Mabus, one of the Midwest’s finest. Rounding out the party were selections from albums by Notorious (Larry Ungar & Eden MacAdam-Somer) and Spook Handy, both of whom have concerts in the nearby environs this weekend.
