Memories / Oh Canada!/H2>

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

This is a two-pronged show with a different theme for each hour.

In the first hour, I was taken back down the Profiles in Folk memory lane when the latest release arrived in the studios from Molly’s Revenge, a Celtic music group from the Santa Cruz, Calif. region. It featured several songs with Moira Smiley, an extraordinary vocalist and creative performer who is touring this year with the group. It brought a smile to my face because when Moira was an undergraduate student at the University of Indiana, she was part of an a capella women’s group called Vida, whose two CDs were prominently programmed at Profiles in Folk for several years. I had lost track of her, but Moira’s now based on West Coast and gone on to quite a successful musical career. Check out www.Moirasmiley.com

As a side note to the Smiley saga, it just happened that she was appearing a few weeks earlier than this airing in New York City with her vocal group VOCO and made an appearance on my son’s show on WKCR-FM. She remembered Profiles and me from years ago and asked if he was any relation! Small world.

The show’s opener and the entire second hour was all-Canada, with selections from new releases. The McDades and Harry Manx have upcoming concerts in our broadcast area.
