Chanukah Party & Songs of the Season

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

This show falls on the first night of Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, and is the first of four consecutive holiday editions of “Profiles in Folk” that celebrate the folk and acoustic music of the holiday season and take us into a new year and a new decade.

The first hour of this show focuses specifically on the history of Chanukah and some of the traditions and rituals used during the celebration of the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem after gaining freedom from the oppression of Syrian rulers in 165 B.C. Margot Leverett and the Klezmer Mountains Boys, who will be appearing in our broadcast area, then help make the transition to secular songs of the season and the theme of remembering the poor.
