It’s the weekend before Halloween and this is our annual listener-popular celebration of the holiday and its roots in the start of the ancient Celtic New Year. The focus on this year’s supernatural happenings is squarely on fairies (the “wee people”) and on changelings and shape shifting, although I couldn’t resist ending with a fine song about a purported witch from folklore.
Two of the ballads programmed come from Jack Hardy and Mike Waterson, both highly-regarded folk musicians who died earlier this year.
