Ukulele Madness / U. Utah Phillips

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

The first hour takes us into a bit of ukulele madness, prompted by three new releases that prominently feature the ukulele, that modest four-string instrument with its limited range. A brief thumbnail historical sketch of the ukulele and the waxing and waning of its popularity during the past century came free of charge with the music.

The second half of the show places the spotlight on a new issue of the late U. Utah (Bruce) Phillips’ monologues and songs from Free Dirt Records, as well as a quick peek at an album of remembrance from a host of Utah performers.

The show closes with selections from the fine ensemble Annalivia, who will be performing in our broadcast area this weekend before heading off to the Folk Alliance International conference.
