Milestones: Happy Birthday, Pete / In Memoriam, Bob Brozman

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

We send out a “Happy 94th Birthday” to American folk icon Pete Seeger on this date. Pete is the personification of American folk music, but he’s also an activist for peace and justice, a humanitarian, an environmental pioneer and a person who builds bridges between diverse people and cultures.

The joy of celebration is tinged with sadness this night as I offered a short “In Memoriam” for guitarist and ethnomusicologist Bob Brozman, who described himself as a “roving guitar anthropologist”. Brozman expertly played a host of stringed instruments and in a lengthy career collaborated with musicians throughout the world. He resided in Santa Cruz County, California, and died April 23 at age 59. The cause of death was suicide.

Neat guitar work from a classic album from Martin Simpson and a new album from Lauren Sheehan opened and closed the show.
