A Bouquet For Mom

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

Mother’s Day arrives this Sunday and this show is our annual tribute to moms the world over and includes a reading of Julia Ward Howe’s “Mother’s Day Proclamation, written around 1870. How, in the aftermath of the horrific American Civil War, envisioned Mother’s Day as a call to pacifism and disarmament by women. In subsequent years, others took up the cause of peace but support also spread for a more general holiday to recognize the contributions made by women. That custom spread across the country. West Virginia became the first state to officially recognize the holiday in 1910 and four years later President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
