This is the first of two shows entitled “Heroes and Villains.” Many times my shows, as they are being constructed, take weird, unexpected turns and this is one. The heroes were originally to be folkloric figures such as Casey Jones and John Henry, but the more I pondered the theme, the more the show’s focus became one of “musical heroes” and that’s where it ended. The first hour pays tribute to three folk music icons: Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe and Hank Williams. The second hour displays the handiwork of a host of artists who’ve been influenced by other “heroes.” As for the villains, tune in next week.
