New Songs That Remind Me Of Old Songs

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

Yes, it’s a bit of an off-kilter theme this week. However, just about every new album that arrives brings with it a reminder or reminders of albums and performers past. The connection could be something as simple as a previously recorded song or subject matter that’s been covered in the past. It could be a style, a melody or an arrangement that reminds of another. Yes, it could be almost anything. Many listeners send notes with the same thoughts, so I decided to take selections from a handful of new albums and link them with what initially came to mind after hearing the selections.

The lengthy first set features master hammered dulcimer player Ken Kolodner who, with his son Brad, will be one of the headliners at the annual Nutmeg Dulcimer Festival Oct. 24-25 in Mary Taylor Methodist Church on the Milford (CT) Green. It’s one of the largest gatherings of mountain and hammered dulcimer players in Connecticut each year.
