A Point of Personal Privilege

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

I’m taking a point of personal privilege with the show tonight to celebrate the wedding of my son, Matthew S. Winters, to Carmen M. Ugarte-Diaz on Jan. 10 in Tarija, Bolivia. Listeners who have been with me through the decades remember Matt from 31 years ago when he made his radio debut at age 4, putting together an hour of children’s songs. He made several appearances through the years and as he went on to college and graduate school, he would travel up from New York City on broadcast nights when I was ill and fill in. He enjoyed his own radio career for 12-plus years at WKCR-FM where he hosted “The Moonshine Show”, a weekly bluegrass show, as well as other programs ranging from gospel to classical. He’s now an assistant professor of political science at the University of Illinois (where he met Carmen, a soil scientist). They are both involved in the Urbana Folk & Roots Festival each fall. God bless them on their journey together through life.
