Music From The Prairie
(Sandwiched Between New Releases)

10 p.m. to Midnight Host: Steve Winters

I’m back from volunteering at the 7th Annual Folk & Roots Festival in Urbana, Illinois. I always return with outstanding albums from performers of whom I previously possessed only fleeting knowledge. This program features selections from four of this year’s performers (Kaia Kater, Rebecca Wudarski, Tom Turino and Lynn O’Brien).

both sides of those selections are a few selections from new releases that found their way into the Profiles in Folk mailbox at WSHU Public Radio, including the close with two pieces from Matthew Byrne of Newfoundland, who I’ve programmed extensively in recent months. His album “Hearts and Heroes” was recently awarded “Traditional Album of the Year” at this year’s Canadian Folk Music Awards.
